Our client, Northeastern University, is searching for a Director of Enrollment Management


Under the supervision and guidance of the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director of Enrollment Management is responsible for leading the development, implementation and assessment of a strategic enrollment plan designed to enroll talented adult undergraduate and graduate students who will benefit from a Northeastern education and meet the University’s enrollment goals in line with the Colleges Deans’ priorities.

The Director of Enrollment will be accountable for coordinating and managing specific constituent relationships or projects in addition to other duties as assigned. The position serves as a liaison with academic team members including Associate Deans and Program Directors, and is expected to positively and collaboratively works on campus-wide committees.

A successful candidate will be a team player with a strong work ethic and demonstrated ability to successfully work independently, and who actively contributes to the office welfare in a high volume, fast-paced environment. The Director will leverage innovative solutions and data analytics to execute strategic enrollment initiatives and outcomes.

The position supervises a team that is responsible for executing on enrollment conversion for assigned campus locations, international and domestic students, online, and college programs. The Director will engage in long-term planning and evaluation, as well as resource assessment and management while reporting directly to the AVP of Enrollment Management.

The incumbent works collaboratively with other senior leaders in the Enrollment Management division, including the AVP of Global Enrollment, the AVP of Marketing and Recruiting, Regional Deans, research and analytics, recruiting and marketing team members, and other leaders across all levels to implement and assess programs that support enrollment and student success in various modalities and learning environments. Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively across units and sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of diverse constituencies is required.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

New Student Enrollment and Yield

Partners with enrollment and marketing leadership on the design, implementation and analysis of an effective enrollment strategy within the undergraduate, graduate and professional markets. Strategies must drive and support annual enrollment goals, increase awareness and contribute to the overall success of Northeastern University and its programs. She/he will bring relationship and consultative selling experience to develop and execute innovative ways to convert prospective student leads for Northeastern programs.

In addition, will ensure that contact/transfer rates, lead to application, and application to enrollment conversion process is effective, efficient and adheres to established timelines and conversion benchmarks as assigned.

Leading Enrollment Team, Partner Management, and Enrollment Goal Achievement

Responsible for developing and overseeing the strategy around the University’s enrollment services, out-bound contact rates, and the pre-qualification partnership strategy; Must be comfortable analyzing and using data to make strategic enrollment decisions and hold team members accountable to achieve assigned enrollment conversion benchmarks. Proactive management of enrollment trends, process efficiencies, and progress towards goal achievement is required.

Executes enrollment strategy development designed to attract student applicants, and enroll students who will benefit from a Northeastern education while meeting institutional enrollment goals. Manages key stakeholder relationships to inform, develop, execute and oversee strategies related to improving enrollment for the undergraduate and graduate professional, and college portfolio. Responsible for monitoring enrollment pipeline performance at the college and program level to drive strategy and progress toward overall enrollment goals.

Directs and trains enrollment team members in the management of appropriate enrollment strategies related to the conversion of prospective students including, but not limited to, building trust and rapport, application and enrollment services, and college partnerships that advance institutional goals.

Training and Professional Development of Staff

  • Directly supervises assigned enrollment team members.
  • Ensures that staff is fully trained on the relationship building, application, and enrollment process including university policies, domestic and international systems, professional practices and in other enrollment-related activities.
  • Monitors progress and the quality of work being evaluated for accuracy, consistency and thoroughness.
  • Works with the academic team leads in the determination of program guidelines to support enrollment goals, while maintaining positive external and internal relationships throughout the University and external community.
  • Effectively manage enrollment services budget and, in conjunction with AVP, engages in budget development and planning.
  • Lead, engage and motivate employees. Actively support a positive team culture.
  • Provide an effective process for performance management that provides measurable goals, clear expectations and solid direction to each team member.
  • Plan, organize resources, assign and delegate activities and measure results to achieve organization’s expectations.
  • Assist employees in navigating business processes and resolving issues.
  • Administer and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Review staffing needs including developing job descriptions and recruitment plans. Lead the selection and on-boarding process.
  • Manage change by providing the needed structure and transparent environment.

Financial Measures

Management of overall enrollment budget as assigned.


Six or more Assistant Directors of Student Enrollment as assigned.


Bachelor degree required, and Master’s degree preferred. At least seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in college admissions and/or higher ed administration. Strong supervisory, interpersonal and leadership skills. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to interpret enrollment research and make relevant application to strategic planning. Experience working with diverse populations. Demonstrated understanding of admissions technical systems. Must be highly organized and detail oriented. Knowledge of higher education issues related to the enrollment of students.
