Our client is seeking a Level II Automation Engineer for its Mobile, Alabama facility. This position will provide technical support, expertise, and project management in the areas of Operations, Rolling and Finishing, and automation-related projects and improvements.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES


General

  • Manage problems and solutions ranging from L-0 through Level-2 systems
  • Develop modifications, enhancements, and upgrades to the L-1 PLC systems
  • Assist in troubleshooting L-1 HMI problems
  • Assist in cost justifications for software and hardware enhancements
  • Collaborate with and oversee personnel and contractors
  • Assist in improvement and selection of field devices
  • Manage long-term planning and growth of the L-1 and L-2 systems

Safety

  • Complete monthly safety observations
  • Assist in coaching and training workforce in support of zero-injury safety culture
  • Recognize, avoid, and where possible eliminate departmental hazards

Maintenance

  • Supervise preventive maintenance of automation equipment

Training

  • Assist in the development and training of automation personnel

Communication

  • Communicate effectively with personnel in all departments

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience in a process control/automation environment
  • Excellent knowledge of L-0 field devices, Level-1 PLC Control, Basic control schemes
  • Knowledge of computer systems, Allen-Bradley and Siemens AC/DC drives, and electrical power layouts
  • Basic knowledge of L-2 systems or theory of control
  • Ability to troubleshoot interrelated Level-1 systems and field devices
  • Working knowledge/basic experience in feedback control systems, HMI control, hydraulic systems, ladder logic and/or function block
  • Self-directed and goal oriented team player
  • Leadership and management capability
  • Project management experience
  • Able to work flexible and demanding work schedule and to be on-call

Desirable

  • VME-based function block knowledge
  • Four (4) years of relevant steel mill experience, especially Steckel mill
  • Knowledge of Synchronous motors
  • Experience with X-ray measuring devices
  • Network experience
